Thomas Janssen
Thomas specializes in industrial property law. His particular expertise is in intellectual property law, especially patent, brand, design and copyright law.
Thomas also provides comprehensive consultancy services (judicial and extra-judicial) in competition law. Additional areas of expertise are drug and medicinal advertising law, and food and nutritional supplement law. An additional core focus is developing and monitoring market portfolios for companies and individuals, and preparing licence, demarcation and coexistence agreements. Thomas is continually engaged in proceedings before the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He advises and represents well-known personalities such as Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Kanye West regarding matters of personality rights, and name, image and brand protection.
Thomas studied law at the University of Tübingen and the University of Hamburg. In 1989/1990, he completed an internship with the law firm Kageneck & Witthuhn, in New York. Thomas has been an attorney since 1991. In 1995, he became a partner at the BRP. From 2000-2006, Thomas was a member of the Board of Directors of Interlaw, the second-largest international law firm association worldwide. Since 2012, he has been leading the Intellectual Property working group at Interlaw. Thomas is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (GRUR), the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the Committee for Intellectual Ownership and Media at the DAV (German Association of Attorneys). He has been leading the Stuttgart regional group since 2013. Thomas is a member of the supervisory board for Grand Slam Sports Marketing Europe AG.
He speaks German, English and French.

Thomas Janssen wird seit 2021 im Ranking „Deutschlands beste Anwälte“ des US-Fachverlags Best Lawyers und des Handelsblatts als führender Experte im Bereich gewerblicher Rechtsschutz empfohlen.
Thomas Janssen gehört nach der Studie "kanzleimonitor.de" des Deutschen Institut für Rechtsabteilungen & Unternehmensjuristen aufgrund der hohen Anzahl von Empfehlungen von Unternehmensjuristen zu den Top 100 Wirtschaftsanwälten in Deutschland im Jahr 2020/2021.
