  • BORA – Professional Code for Attorneys (Berufsordnung für Rechtsanwälte)
  • Specialist Attorneys‘ Regulation (Fachanwaltsordnung)
  • RVG – Attorneys‘ Remuneration Act (Gesetz über die Vergütung der Rechtsanwältinnen und Rechtsanwälte)
  • Professional Rules for Attorneys in the European Community (Berufsregeln der Rechtsanwälte der Europäischen Gemeinschaft) (CCBE)
  • EuRAG - Act on the Activities of European Attorneys in Germany (Gesetz über die Tätigkeit europäischer Rechtsanwälte in Deutschland)

Professional rules prohibit attorneys (Rechtsanwälte) from acting in cases where there is a conflict of interest (section 43a(4) BRAO). For this reason, a conflict of interest check will be carried out before accepting a mandate.

The following professional rules apply to tax consultants (Steuerberater).  They can be accessed on the website of the Federal Association of Tax Consultants (www.bstbk.de) in the section “Ihr Steurberater” (your tax consultant) under “Berufsrecht” (professional law):

  • The following professional rules apply to patent attorneys (Patentanwälte):

  • FICPI Code of Professional Conduct (accessible here)
  • Code of Conduct of the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office for the exercise of one’s profession (accessible at www.patentepi.com under "Rules and Regulations")


Extrajudicial mediation:

Upon request, disputes between attorneys and their clients can be referred to extrajudicial mediation at the regional Bar Association Stuttgart (www.rak-stuttgart.de, pursuant to section 73(2)(3) in connection with section 73(5) BRAO) or the Federal Bar Association’s Mediation Board (www.brak.de, pursuant to section 191(f) BRAO).
